FC History

The School of Sciences, a UNESP Bauru unit, started with Educational Foundation of Bauru (FEB), entity of public law, nonprofit. It was created for Municipal Law No. 1276, edited on December 26, 1966, and its statute was approved by Municipal Decree No. 1932 of July 9, 1973.

The authorization for installation of the School of Sciences, with courses in Physics, Mathematics, Design, Science and Psychology was in November 18, 1968, by Resolution No. 30/68 of the State Council of Education. In 1969, the Department of Education, through Act 46 of February 2, 1969, the State Council of Education, by resolution 05/69 of same date, and the State Government, through Decree No. 51578, March 21, 1969, authorizing the operation of the School of Educational Foundation of Bauru. So, on February 28, 2009, the School of Sciences completed 40 years of existence.

Established originally in building the State Department of Education, in Vila Falcão, the Educational Foundation of Bauru received by donation from the City of Bauru, the area of 4.800.000 m², located in District of Vargem Limpa. On August 16, 1985, by Municipal Decree No. 4497 and Opinion of State Council of Education No. 951, of July 2, 1985, the School of Science, Engineering and Technology, maintained by the Educational Foundation of Bauru, were transformed at University of Bauru, recognized on November 4, 1986, the Ministry of Education, through Ordinance No. 774.

On August 15, 1988, after approval by the University Council of UNESP, the State Government, through Decree No. 28682, the University of the Bauru was incorporated by Universidade Estadual Paulista "Júlio de Mesquita Filho", with the following academic structure: School of Architecture, Arts and Communication, School of Sciences and School of Engineering and Technology.

The Center of Applied Pscychology (CPA), auxiliary unit, owned by School of Sciences of UNESP, Campus Bauru, began its activities in 1973, then in the Educational Foundation of Bauru (FEB), aiming to bring together and coordinate the activities of mandatory training for students of the Training Course for Psychologists, Department of Psychology.

The incorporation by UNESP demanded that the School of Science reassess its goals and structure. The research and extension have gained greater importance in the previous period and not yet qualified teachers at the postgraduate level, had to get these titles at other institutions. Thus, there was a jump of 5% of teachers with doctor's degrees in 1988 to 84% doctors in 2004, the average value of UNESP. As a result, there was a rapid growth not only in education and extension activities, but also the quantity and quality of research activities.

Currently it has 1,928 students enrolled in 12 undergraduate courses: Degree in Biological Sciences - Full-time and night term; Degree in Physics – night term; Degree of Mathematics – night term; Degree of Physical Education - full time and night term, Psychology Training of Psychologists - full time and night term; Master of Education - the evening, Degree in Chemistry – night term; Bachelor of Computer Science - full time; and Bachelor of Information Systems – night term.

The college offers three graduate programs stricto sensu: Education for Science - Area of Concentration: Teaching of Science, was initiated in 1997, currently has 102 students enrolled; Science and Technology of Materials (Inter) was started in 2004 with 104 students, and Psychology of Learning and Development, was initiated in 2005, currently with 45 students enrolled.

For the development of its activities, FC currently has 153 faculty distributed in Departments of Education, Physical Education, Computer, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Psychology, besides 82 technical and administrative servers active.

With a growing infrastructure, FC has 20 teaching laboratories, 46 research laboratories and 04 Educational Computing laboratories.

Through extension, the School of Sciences achieves an educational, cultural and scientific process, linking teaching and research in an inseparable manner and allows the relationship between University and Society sector. The great diversity in form of return that the University gave the society, especially those around the School of Sciences.
