SCHOOL OF SCIENCES

UNESP’s Bauru School of Sciences (FC) provides nine courses in the fields of Humanities, and Biological and Exact Sciences. Psychology Certification Training has been offered since 1969, when FC was founded. New courses in Mathematics, Physics and Biological Sciences were created in 1975, followed by Computer Science in 1984, Physical Education in 1986, Information Systems in 1997, and Certification Courses in Chemistry and Pedagogy in 2002.

ABOUT BAURU

Located in the central region of the state of São Paulo, 345 kilometers from the state capital, Bauru is home to a large number of industries. Indeed, the city lies within the 400-kilometer sphere responsible for more than a half of the country’s gross internal product. Fruit production and cattle farming also play a role in the economy of the city, which has about 350,000 inhabitants and a tropical climate with temperatures averaging 26 °C.

TEACHING

The objective of the Psychology Certification Course is to train and qualify its students to work as psychologists and high school Psychology teachers. The Mathematics course prepares future teachers to use their skills for the improvement of learning conditions at official public schools. Physics and Biological Sciences are courses aimed at preparing students for research and high school teaching careers. The B.S. Program in Computer Science is designed to provide students with skills to work in several fields, such as the development of basic and scientific software, computer networks, data bases and computer education. The Physical Education course empowers students to become teachers, coaches and cultural agents. Information Systems trains students to implement and manage these systems. The Teaching Degree Program in Pedagogy qualifies students for Early Childhood and Elementary School Education, whereas the Chemistry Certification course prepares future elementary/high school teachers.

OUTREACH ACTIVITIES

Community Services include the program “Approaches to Environmental Education for Children – Building Citizenship and Preservation Awareness” , designed for children receiving day care in Bauru; “Artistic Gymnastics to Children”; and “Professional Initiation and Guidance for Institutionalized Youths” that aims at promoting the inclusion of adolescents involved with drugs in the job market .

AUXILIARY UNITS

The Center of Applied Psychology (CAP), one of the units affiliated to the school, aims at providing students of the Psychology course with academic training and skills following Psychology Certification. The Meteorological Research Institute (IPMet) supplies meteorological research data to the entire state of São Paulo.
